This is the VOA Special English Health Report, from http://voaspecialenglish.com | http://facebook.com/voalearningenglish
South Africa plans to test fifteen million people for H.I.V. by June of next year. That is almost one-third of its population. South Africa has the most people living with H.I.V. of any nation. The number of infected men, women and children is estimated at more than five and a half million — or eleven percent of the population. President Jacob Zuma launched the testing campaign on April twenty-fifth in Johannesburg. He announced the results of his latest blood test for H.I.V. He said the results in April, like the three earlier ones, were negative for the H.I.V. virus. He said he was sharing the results to support openness and understanding. The country’s former president, Thabo Mbeki, was known for the unaggressive way his government dealt with AIDS. He questioned whether H.I.V. even caused the disease. The new testing and counseling campaign started at a single location in each of South Africa’s nine provinces in April. The program will be expanded every two months until fifty-two health centers are offering the service. The government says it will also expand treatment and support services. Francois Venter is a senior director in the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit at the University of Witwatersrand. He says the testing campaign may put additional stress on the health system, but that will show where the weaknesses are. He says knowing which areas of the system are going to cause future problems will make the effort worthwhile, even if the goal of fifteen million is not reached. The South Africa National AIDS Council is heading the campaign. The council includes government representatives, medical experts and health activists. The theme of the campaign is “I am responsible. We are responsible. South Africa is taking responsibility.” Along with H.I.V., South Africa also has high rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and tuberculosis. Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says the campaign will be used to improve all health care. People who get tested for H.I.V. will also get other services including screening for blood pressure, blood sugar and TB. In June the eyes of the football world will be on South Africa when it becomes the first African country to host the World Cup. And that’s the VOA Special English Health Report. Meet Taddy Blecher. Taddy Blecher was ready to emigrate from South Africa when he took a second look at his native country. “I saw aching poverty,” he said, and he made a life-changing decision to do something about it. In 1999 he and his colleagues opened CIDA City Campus to provide disadvantaged youths a chance to earn a four-year business administration degree. At a cost of just $9,500 per student, CIDA has produced 1,800 graduates with potential lifetime earnings of $635,000 to $1.5 million who teach and sponsor other students. CIDA plans to open new campuses, increase enrollment and create a franchise model called University-in-a-Box entirely built and managed by students.

The United States has used trade embargos, trade agreements, and military action to influence countries in Latin America.
Best I can do.
Only in 1992, the Slovenia National football team played their first game after their break from Yugoslavia. The lesser known of the Slavic nations, Slovenia has only played in one World Cup and one European Championship. In Euro 2000, they drawed twice and loss once,, but in 2002, they couldn’t get a win. In 2010 South Africa, they will try to get their first win ever in a World Cup game, but being one of the worst teams in the World Cup, it will take them more than their hearts to do so.
Qualification: In Group C there were only one European power (Cezech Republic) and a few other good teams (Slovakia, Poland), but even with these teams, Slovenia managed to place second in the Group. However, this would mean nothing if it wasn’t for their dramatic aggregate win over powerhouse Russia in the playoff. Bilyaletdinov scored twice for the Russians but Pecnik scored a crucial away goal to make it 2-1, and at home, Dedic provided the only goal needed to take Russia out of the World Cup. The World wasn’t so happy about it (including myself!), but it was a surprise, and that’s what the World Cup is all about.
The team: Coach Matjaz Kek leads an ill-prepared Slovenia side because lack of experience, and many players will experience their first taste of World Cup history. The Slovenians have a steady balance in all positions, but lack of stamina, agility, and physical strength degrades them. Even with this behind them, Slovenia has a lot of pride and confidence coming to South Africa.
Probable Starting Lineup (4-3-1-2):
———-Handanovic————
Ilic—Mavric—Cesar—Jokic
—-Kirm—Koren—Komac—-
————-Birsa——————
——–Dedic—Novakovic—–
Stars to watch:
Zlatko Dedic: The man who scored the winning goal against Russia has already made a name for himself, and surely will start.
Milovohe Novakovic: The 6-4 striker for FC Koln has a height advantage over many defenders in Group C.
Robert Koren: As captain, Koren has much experience to be captain for his side, and he’s the most physical player too.
Verdict: Slovenia come into the World Cup as the worst team from Europe, and the worst side in Group C, but they proved the World they mean business when they beat Russia, and it can happen again vs Algeria or the United States or even mighty England. Slovenia might not be here to show everyone that they can win the World Cup, but they’re here to show that anything can happen in the World Cup, and as a new football nation, there will be plenty of time in the future to grow into a more talented team. They come into the World Cup as the smallest team, but they have a bigger heart.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5myVxxvf1M&feature=PlayList&p=30E99C5BAB05FD29&playnext_from=PL&playnext=1&index=21
Question: Will Slovenia win their first World Cup game this year?
I honestly think that Slovenia are a greatly under-estimated team coming into this World Cup. They may not have the star players in their side, but what they have is a very tight-knit team of players willing to play together cohesively, sacrificing individuality for the greater good. Let’s not forget that they also beat Russia to get to the World Cup, so they are no pushovers.
Make no mistake, Slovenia will be a very difficult game for every team in Group C, including England.
